Queering the Art Classroom Presents: Heritage is a Drag with Claire Mead

How can we queer art history and heritage? Join activist and curator Claire Mead in taking a look at ways different museums and historic sites queer the way we look at art and history. Followed by a casual drag workshop and nail-painting session with tips with Claire's drag king alter ego, Eugène Delacroissant!
Claire Mead is an art and design curator as well as the public programme curator for Makerversity at Somerset House. She was 2018-19 curator in residence at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, where she curated the exhibition ‘Living Beyond Limits’ queering its art collection. Recently, she has been expanding her work in queer activism within museums and heritage into drag practice with her alter ego "Eugène Delacroissant."
This event is organised by Queering the Art Classroom in conjunction with their exhibition 'Queering the Art Classroom Collaborates' on at Sutton House from 20th-29th September.

Queering the Art Classroom | Reading Group

Queering the Art Classroom is delighted to invite you to our reading group on the 26th of September at Sutton House, Hackney. Our session will be led by Diana Puntar, artist, whose work features in our new exhibition Queering the Art Classroom Collaborates.
Formerly NY and LA based, Diana now lives in London. They have taught sculpture at the Pratt Institute, NY and Cal Poly, CA. Their solo shows include MoMA PS1, Participant INC and Blackston Gallery amongst others. They have received various awards including two Pollock Krasner Grants and funding from the Joan Mitchell Foundation. Puntar currently has a solo show, Meat Rock... Rockers on view at The Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland, Oregon.
This session will start with a tour of our new exhibition Queering the Art Classroom Collaborates, and a discussion between QTAC and Diana Puntar around queer artwork and practice.
We will then be reading the chosen text together - Cruising Utopia by José Esteban Muñoz. There is no need to prepare ahead of time, and copies will be provided on the night of the event.
